The Brescia province reflected in the lake

A farm holiday in the Brescia province

The Brescia province reflected in the lake

The Brescia province happily situated in the fertile Padova plain is tightly packed with stories, accounts and attractions, along with art collections, nature and archaeology satisfying every desire of what can be seen, and maybe making a last minute stop in a comfortable farm holiday in the area.
The multiplicity of historical events have enriched the region with wonderful masterpieces, traceable above all in the historical centre of Brescia where monuments from the Lombardic, Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque periods stand side by side. Old and new cathedrals, Santa Giulia Monastery, the Loggia Palace, and the Broletto are some examples of the artistic heritage so ecliptic of this city and which are proudly represented in history books thanks to the Austrian resistance and appellative in the “Leonessa d’Italia” .

A panorama romantically softened by the presence of the lake is what awaits you at Iseo a short distance away from the provincial capital. Visit Torbiere del Sebino nature reserve where cane thickets are home to fireflies, tench, eels, water hens and herons inspiring a sensation of profound peace while walking along the lakeside, and while the flickering city lights relect down upon the glistening water. Iseo is situated in the Franciacorta region and it would be a shame not to stop and taste one of the best Italian oenological productions.

From Iseo and another municipality in the Brescia province: Padenghe sul Garda. Padenghe is a peaceful location dominated by an ancient 9th century castle situated on a hill which enjoys a splendid view of the nearby Sirmione. Here one would gladly stop to taste the local gastronomic delicacies such as pike fish served with capers or grilled, bream tartare, tuna steak, served with two famous extra virgin olive oils (DOP), the Sebino and the Garda Bresciano.

Just a few kilometres separate Padenghe from the splendid Desenzano del Garda, whose profile is complimented by an imposing medieval castle, nearby pebbly beaches, and by the local park which is equipped with many activities to entertain both big and small. It’s above all a tourist destination in the Summer when the castle is host to numerous theatrical performances and cultural events. Desenzano also maintains a discrete fascination in the Winter period which induces a good level of entertainment from the discovery of a region dotted with some of the most beautiful lakes in Italy to soft hills with vineyards and farm holidays anxious to offer the best of the area in terms of hospitality and gastronomy.

Did you know that?
The lakes have always been the subject of legends and fantasies that depict them as habitats of fearsome monsters along with the depth of the seabed and the air of seductive mystery that surrounds them. Like any respectable lake, Lake Garda also links its name to these legendary facts.
Indeed on 17th August 1965 it was reported by local newspapers that a group of tourists of different nationalities had seen a gigantic monstrous creature similar to a long snake with four humps. The episode caused quite a stir, and many fisherman in the area still talk about it today often to the benefit of curious tourists, although the beauty of the biggest lake in Italy doesn’t need these legendary tales to leave you bewitched.
