Close by are found some of the most beautiful towns and countryside in central Italy: Arezzo, Cortona, Firenze, Siena with its pituresque hills, Assisi, Perugia, Lago Trasimeno, Roma.
Cortona is a municipality of 23,041 inhabitants in the province of Arezzo which is one of the main and most important tourist and cultural center of the Val di Chiana .The area around the town is the fourth largest in Tuscany excluding the regional capital and it is at place 29 ° in Italy. Old and ancient Etruscan city whih was once part of the Etruscan dodecapoli. It is located south of the province of Arezzo but it is also close to the border with Umbria and Trasimeno Lake.
Arezzo - a 40 km
Arezzo rises on an hill on east Tuscany and as its architecture witnesses, it has very ancient origins. It was one of the most famous Etruscan cities and then it was a roman city. The highest part of the city retains a strong medieval feel, dominated by the Cathedral and the Medici Fortress. The Cathedral, which has Gothic features in its appearance, preserves valuable works of art such as La Maddalena of Piero della Francesca and the stained glass windows by Guillaume de Marcillat. In the center of town you will find the Piazza Grande which shows different styles of architectures and during the second Saturday of June and the first Sunday in September it becomes the scene and location of the Giostra del Saracino, a medieval jousting tournament. This square and many other places of the old town host every first Sunday of the month and the previous Saturday, the famous Antique Fair. The Bacci chapel in the Basilica of St. Francis has the precious and extraordinary cycle of frescoes of the Legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesca, one of the highest examples of painting in the Italian Renaissance. In the Church of San Domenico, simply constructed with a single nave, it is guarded the cross painted by Cimabue, a youthful work of the artist. Many other churches and palaces witness with their beauty and their originality in the style, the culture in Arezzo and its importance during the different historical periods.

The Trasimeno Lake, or Lake of Perugia is an area of 128 km² and it is one of the biggest lakes in Italy, at the fourth place in Italy after the Lake of Como. It is a volcanic lake and it is not so deep ( an average of 4,3 m, a maximum of 6 m). it is easy to reach within a 20 minutes drive.
