Castello di Querceto and the lands surrounding it are places full of history and atmosphere.
Once the castle rose in a strategic and defensive position like a sentinel on the “Via Cassia Imperiale”, one of the main roman roads built by the Emperor Adriano in the 123 a.C. It was built in the XVI century a.C. after the destruction of the previous building, burnt and sacked during one of the several local wars at the end of the XV century.
Accommodations and Services in Agriturismo Castello di Querceto
The estate disposes of ten apartments. Some of them are located directly in the farm centre, very close to the medieval castle, with entrance from the old stone court where the wine shop, the offices and the ancient cellar face. The other apartments have been built in an old country house with hayloft, at about 700 metres from the castle. The house is called “Le Giuncaie” as the vineyard skirting it.
All the apartments have been recently renewed. They respect the old tuscan rustic style with their wooden beams and terracotta tiled floors, but they are equipped with all the comforts like independent heating, telephone and satellite television.
Every apartment has got one or more bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge and freezer, cooker, electric oven and sink.
The choice of the furniture has been made taking care of the details: the handicraft and ancient pieces, often antiques, and the rich curtains and blankets make unique every apartment.
The apartments are provided with bath and bed linen. Linen change is usually done at the end of each week of staying, but if requested, there is the possibility to have it every day, as the room service.
It is also possible, always on demand, using the laundry which is equipped with washing and drying machines. In every apartment there is an iron with its ironing-board.
During the stay we offer the possibility to reserve a guided tour of the cellars and a tasting of our products that can be purchased in our little wine shop.
Internal Services: Phone in room, TV sat, Heating, Daily cleaning, Final cleaning
External services: Car park
The stone country house, which once was the house of the farm workers, is surrounded by a fresh garden, equipped with tables, chairs, sun umbrellas and a playground for children with a see-saw, a slide and some picnic tables. Close the building there is a swimming pool of 14 x 7 meters with chairs, sun beds and sun umbrellas.
Where we areCastello di Querceto is located in the northeastern side of the Chianti Classico area, in a small valley in the comune of Greve in Chianti.
This verdant area, thanks to its extraordinary beauty and to its central position, it is a strategic place to start visiting the historical Tuscany cities: Florence, home of art and poetry, is only 25 km far from us. Full of renowned museums, churches, squares and ancient buildings, the town makes you breath its history simply walking through the handicraft-shops and the elegant outlets.
In about 45 km you are in Siena, located up on a hill and surrounded by the old boundary walls. From the walls the city develops in a tangle of lanes and alleys arriving to Piazza del Campo, the main square where twice a year takes place the famous medieval horse race “Palio”.
At the beginning of the last century, Carlo François bought the estate and turned it from a country residence into an agricultural farm, starting immediately to play an important part in the wine world: in the 1911 it won its first international enological prize and in 1824 it was one of the 33 founded members if the “Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico”. In the old cellars there are bottles dating back to the first vintages of the 20th century.
At Castello di Querceto you can have, better on request, winery tours (in Italian and English) of the medieval cellars.
During the visit you can have a walk in the Castle private garden among secular plants and have a complete view of the vineyards with their description from the bordered walls.
At the end of the tour, you will have guided tasting of three typical wines: Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva (which was listed in the 100 best wines of the world in its vintage 1999 and 2000*) and one of our Crûs.
For tasting without visit and to buy the Castle products, the Enoteca is opened every working days from 10.30 a.m. to 17.30 p.m. and on Saturday, from May to September, on request.
