Where we arePodere Cerreta is located in Tuscany San Godenzo in Prov. in Florence
San Godenzo territory, with the surrounding mountains, was dominated from the Guidi Counts until the year 1344, when it was ceded to Florentine Republic at the time. In this way it became part of the Florentine area which was widening with ever new conquests. Between the end of the fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth century, Florence prepared its Statute with its rules, guaranteeing for itself especially the forest and breeding resources. From the year 1500 until the year 1700, San Godenzo as well as all the Mugello area, continued to suffer the oppression of the municipalityof Florence.
In the year 1737 the Lorraine Reign carried out several reforms in the protection of forests and agriculture. With the Napoleonic Kingdom (1801-1814) the territory suffered an interruption of improvements. After the fall of Napoleon, Tuscany was ceded to the Hapsburg-Lorraine Leopold II who completed the road to the city of Forlì and built a big wall called "Muraglione", to allow the exchange of horses, which were sheltered from the violent winds of the road. During that period, there was a significant population increase of San Godenzo, that in the year 1844 touched 3304 inhabitants. But the First World War had tragic consequences for the country in human and economic terms.During the year 1944, under the oppression of the German army and its allies, most of the houses were razed, and a great part of the population was forced to take refuge far away, beyond the Appenins too. In the year 1945 San Godenzo began its reconstruction. Today the village of San Godenzo, with its 1.258 inhabitants, has as economic activities the handicraft of wood, wrought iron and stone; moreover there is an important increase of tourism.
