Guide to vacation in Latina
Discover Latina - Guide to vacation in Latina

The province of Latina was founded in 1934. In ancient times it was known as the province of Littoria.
The territory that comprises Latina and its province was in great part created from land reclamation work that took place during the first decades of the 1900s.

The province of Latina offers visitors views of a fantastic variety of natural landscapes: from the Lepini, Aurunci and Ausoni mountains to the sea and the vast Agro Pontino plain.
The entire Circeo National Park is part of the Latina province.
The Pontine marshes extend from the foot of the Lepini Mountains as far as Terracina. Here in 1934 the Circeo National Park was established with its coastal lakes, forest and the Circeo promontory. The park contains areas of forest, sand, lakes and Mediterranean scrub. Historical sites within the park are the Baths of Lucullus, Domitian’s Villa and the Neanderthal caves of “Circeo Man". The history of this park is celebrated and explained in the Circeo Park Museum.

Sabaudia, Gaeta, Circeo, Sperlonga and Terracina have always been very popular seaside resorts for the nearby city of Rome, and nowadays for the whole of Italy.
The Ponzian islands have given Latina the name of “the Pontine province”. Four are in the municipality of Ponza: the islands of Ponza, Palmarola, Zannone and Gavi, and two are in the municipality of Ventotene: the islands of Ventotene and Santo Stefano.

Lovers of old medieval villages can visit various ones situated in the Lepini Mountains, which are also home to the highly interesting Cistercian Abbey of Fossanova and the Abbey of Valvisciolo. Throughout the province of Latina down as far as Campania there are excellent cheeses to be sampled: mozzarella, mozzarella “plaits”, scacione from Cisterna di Latina and cacioricotta from Lenola.
