Guide to vacation in Imperia
Discover Imperia - Guide to vacation in Imperia

The province of Imperia was founded in the 1920s from the fusion of the maritime port of Oneglia and the coastal town of Porto Maurizio.
Around Imperia are well-known tourist destinations.

Overlooking the Gulf of Diana is the white medieval town of Cervo, historically known for its coral fishing and olive oil trade.
Pay a visit to Clavesana Castle, (today the home of the Museum of Western Ethnography), Via Saliferi and the ancient streets that surround it, and finally the Church of the Corallini.
Cervo is surrounded by ancient olive trees that produce an excellent, extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil, fish and Vermentino wine are among the most noteworthy products of this area.

Pigna perches on a hill among olive groves and chestnut woods. We suggest you visit Pigna on foot as far as Piazza Vecchia in order to enjoy all the lovely features hidden among the small alleyways, then continue to climb towards Piazza Castello.
From Pigna by way of a panoramic tarmac road, you reach the pinewoods of Gola di Gouta and the expanse of meadows of Margheria dei Boschi.

5 km north of Pigna is Buggio, at the foot of the mountain in a true mountain environment. The karst rock reveals itself in all its fascination with almost two hundred natural caves, among them the Rugli and della Melosa caves.
From Buggio you can reach a height of two thousand metres following the many mountain trails that lead up to the French border. One we suggest is the Sentiero degli Alpini. At certain look out points dug into the rock, walkers may spot marmots, chamois, harrier eagles and golden eagles, as well as lush vegetation containing rare botanical species. Excursions on foot are organised to the Tenarda artificial lake and to Colla Melosa.

In the province of Imperia with its many traditions and legends, another small town worth visiting is Triora.
Inhabited since ancient times it reached its peak and its present appearance during the twelfth century, becoming the fiefdom of the counts of Ventimiglia.
Local traditions are collected in the old Town Hall that hosts the Regional Museum of Ethnography and Sorcery.
