Guide to vacation Varese
Discover Varese - Guide to vacation Varese

The province of Varese is among the most populous in Lombardy, in fact there are more than 854,000 inhabitants. Bordering Varese to the north and east is the Swiss canton of Ticino.

The province of Varese is very important environmentally due to the presence of lakes, hills and mountainous areas. Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano and Lake Varese along with other smaller lakes such as Lakes Delio, Ganna and Ghirla provide opportunities for excursions and walks in one of Italy’s most beautiful natural environments. Lake Varese is one the group called the Seven Lakes that also include Lakes Comabbio, Monate, Delio, Ganna, Ghirla and Biandronno.

Numerous valleys characterize the area known as the Varesotto; among the main ones are Val Dumentina, Valle Olona, Val Veddasca, Valcuvia and Valtravaglia.
The southern part of the Varese province is dominated by most important plain in the Italian peninsula: the Po Valley.
In the province of Varese, visit Brinzio, one of the most beautiful villages of the alpine areas with its mountain homes still stable and intact after centuries. The entire municipality is part of the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park. Also visit Brinzio’s glacial lake, Lake Brinzio, surrounded by a grove of reeds and populated by toads and red mountain frogs. The Valmolina torrent is also well known for its 27m drop, forming the Pesech waterfall.
Climb to Monteviasco in Val Veldasca. This village can only be reached either by a mule track or the cable car. Also follow the paths that lead to its peaks: the Polusa with its “cellars” for ripening cheese, La Cortetti with stone carvings, and La Corte on the path that leads into Switzerland.
