Guide to vacation Fermo
Discover Fermo - Guide to vacation Fermo

Fermo, the fifth province in Le Marche, is situated between the Tenna and Ete Vivo river valleys.
The heart of the city of Fermo is the Piazza del Popolo lined with arcades, and with a splendid town hall.

A town worth visiting within the Fermo province is Amandola, located in the Tenna Valley, an area with a long history of colonization.
In the thirteenth century the castles of Agello, Leone and Marrubbione united to form Amandola. This characteristic town has always been famous for processing wool from the flocks on the Sibillini mountains. During the first week of November the festival “Diamonds at the Table” is held, offering typical local produce from the town and surrounding areas, with particular attention paid to the local truffle. There is also bacon, coppa maritata, the famous rispella as it’s called in dialect, and many other local culinary delicacies.
The environs of Amandola are notable for the number of churches and abbeys, many of which are worth visiting. 3 km to the south of Amandola is the country church of S. Pietro in Castagno with its Romanesque portico.
Another religious site whose natural setting also makes a great impact is the abbey of S. Rufino. S.Rufino is the patron saint of Assisi, and the Romanesque cathedral of S. Rufino is dedicated to him. In his honour the traditional S. Rufino Palio takes place on the last Sunday in August. The town nestles in a beautiful natural oasis. It can be visited on foot, horseback or by mountain bike.

The beautiful silhouette of Montefortino, a typical Apennine village, can be seen on a hill.  The history of Montefortino includes many battles against Amandola and Montemonaco for the best pastures.
In addition to visiting the art treasures of Montefortino, do not miss tasting the black and white truffles, mushrooms and apples.
The village of Montefortino is full of churches: pay a visit to those of S. Francesco, S. Augustine and S. Michele the Archangel.
Among the churches of this special village is Madonna del Fonte, built as a gesture of gratitude for the abundant springs in the Sibillini mountains.
Strolling through the centre of Montefortino, stop to admire the “Temple of the Clock”, and visit the collection of sacred art in the civic art gallery.

Still protected by its beautiful walls is Moresco, another delightful village in the Fermo province. The heart of Moresco is Piazza Castello, surrounded by low houses. The old centre has an elliptical shape with narrow streets, the triangular Piazza Castello, the portico and frescoes. A large altarpiece by Pagani is conserved in the Town Hall. The 25m high heptagonal tower is very interesting, and was chosen by the village as its symbol.
