Guide to vacation Ogliastra
Discover Ogliastra - Guide to vacation Ogliastra

The Ogliastra province, in dialect Ollasta, is a Sardinian province with a very varied landscape.
Like many Sardinian towns with a rich ancient history, Ogliastra's origins date back to the Neolithic period.
Prehistoric people lived throughout the province, including along the coasts, where they lived off plants, hunting and fishing. The many pirate raids forced them to move to the inland areas, creating the first mountain villages.
In these harsh landscapes they survived through developing agriculture and shepherding. Various tools have been found, such as the arrows they used. Nuraghi are scattered more or less throughout the Ogliastra province.

A trip to this province should definitely include a bathe in the sea. Few places have a sea as clear as Sardinia’s, which in this province includes long beaches and jagged cliffs.
The lands of Ogliastra are also full of mountain villages, pastureland and farms.
The province’s environmental characteristics promote excellent food products, such as cheese, wine and special cakes linked to local traditions.
The Ogliastra province boasts a variety of different cakes and biscuits to accompany the various annual festivities.

Seui is a tiny town in the province known for its narrow streets, and in Villagrande the dreams of ham-lovers will be satisfied by the locally produced varieties. Cannonau is an excellent wine produced in the southern area of this gourmet province. Don’t miss trying the Tertenia cheese and culurgiones (potato and cheese ravioli).
