Guide to vacation Oristano
Discover Oristano - Guide to vacation Oristano

On the Campidano plain lies the ancient Sardinian province of Oristano.
Oristano's history is closely linked to the story of Eleonora d'Arborea. Eleonora d'Arborea is especially known for the Carta de Logu, one of the world’s first examples of a constitution. Visit the statue dedicated to her.
In 1070 the town became the capital of the Giudicatato (judicature) of Arborea.

In Oristano don’t miss a visit to the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its interesting medieval sculptures, and the church of San Francesco which holds Nicodemus’ Christ.
It’s great fun to take part in the Carnival celebrations, either masked or on horseback. During these lively festivals, folklore, colours and traditions blend together wonderfully, providing an excellent opportunity for getting to know the local culture.
Even the most demanding palate will enjoy sipping good wine associated with curious legends.
Oristano is, in fact, the home of Vernaccia wine, made from an indigenous species of grape. Winemaking procedures were also set down in the Carta de Logu.
Legend has it that S. Giusta’s tears protect the wine.
The Saint’s tears, shed because of the malaria epidemics, protected the local population from this disease.

Terralba in Pauli Putzu merits a visit. Here Roman tombs have been discovered containing all the objects considered essential to the deceased when passing on to another life. Unfortunately, the necropolis has been heavily damaged by grave robbers.
Bosa is another wonderful town in the province of Oristano, where you can visit the cathedral dedicated to the Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
While in Bosa, take a walk along the magical stretches of coastline, such as Cala Managua, Cala Cumpoltitu, Abba Drucche, Bosa Marina and Turas.
