Guide to vacation Sassari
Discover Sassari - Guide to vacation Sassari

Sassari was first cited in an act of 1131 in a register of the monastery of San Pietro di Silki.
Sassari with its medieval architecture is a lively town whose origins date back to the Neolithic period, as the many discoveries exhibited in the Sanna Museum show.

The entire province has a very varied landscape that includes miles of white beaches alternating with miles of bare rocks.
In its more humid areas, Sassari is populated by a rare species of bird: the purple swamphen (porphirio porphirio), now on the verge of extinction in the rest of Italy.
The Sardinian wild boar, however, inhabits the beautiful natural environment of Lake Baratz, Sardinia’s only natural lake.

The environmental wonders do not end here: a visit should be made to the beaches of Platamona, Porto Palmas, Argentiera and Porto Ferro. Argentiera and Canaglia are also mining areas.
One destination that is a must is Mount Accoddi, with monumental religious architecture of the third millennium BC.
Sassari’s great age is demonstrated by the presence of nuraghi throughout its territory as well as Domus de Janas (chamber tombs), hypogean tombs and caves.
Alghero in the province of Sassari has long been famous for its beaches of finest sand and its cliffs, ringed by Mediterranean scrub. Alghero offers exciting vistas: unforgettable views can be seen from Capo Caccia. Alghero has one of the most unusual natural environments in the Italian peninsula, evidenced, for example, by the presence of red coral.
Founded in order to protect the Alghero area: the ‘Capo Caccia-Isola Piana’ Marine Protected Area and the Regional Park of Porto Conte.
