Guide to vacation Aosta
Discover Aosta - Guide to vacation Aosta

The old city of Aosta is mainly Romanesque, as witnessed by the Arch of Augustus and Porta Pretoria. Among the most important churches in the city is Sant'Orso with a high bell tower dating from 1131, and capitals decorated with scenes from the Old and New Testaments. The cathedral contains an important fresco cycle from 1030-1040.

The Val d'Aosta offers visitors more than one hundred castles and noble residences dating from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Courmayeur, Cogne and Breul-Cervinia are among the most important tourist centres in the Val d’Osta, renowned for their beautiful landscapes and winter sport resorts.

A jewel of nature is the “Gran Paradiso” National Park. It was established in 1922, and the vegetation is prevalently larch, spruce and pine. Ibex (protected in this area since the beginning of the 19th century), golden eagles, chamois and marmots live in the park.

A multitude of small villages dot the Aosta Valley area. Worth visiting among these is Antagnod with its "signora dei pascoli" (lady of the pastures) cow, a symbol of these mountains with their fresh water springs. The village has kept its traditional Alpine architecture.
Antagnod lies at the heart of the Costa de Rù. The name “Rù” refers to important hydraulic works built to collect water from streams to use for irrigation.
Morgex, also in the province of Aosta, is especially noted for being surrounded by ancient woods.
