Maremma. A name that evokes history and breathtaking landscapes. Here lies Relais La Cerreta; 400 hectares that bring together nature and man. Wheat fields and rolling hills covered in olive trees give way to woodland and Mediterranean scrub as far as the eye can see. A small number of spacious apartments can be found in a land where nature is queen and visitors feel part of her kingdom.

The apartments are self catering and offer every comfort: adjustable heating, TV with SKY decoder, hairdryer, and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Some apartments have a working fireplace. On arrival, visitors will find the beds made and a full set of bathroom towels, a complete set of utensils, dishes and dish towels for the kitchen, as well as our welcome pack. The newly built swimming pool dominates the flat area and is surrounded by soft grass. Equipped with more than enough sun loungers and umbrellas for all our guests, the pool area is ideal for relaxing and is a safe area for children to play in. Beside the buildings you’ll find a children’s play area and barbeque area with pergola, table and chairs. Every apartment has a dedicated naturally shaded parking space and guests can make use of bicycles to move around and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Sporting activities
The Maremma region offers infinite possibilities to try your favourite sporting activities. The Argentario Golf Club and Tarquinia Country Club are nearby and both offer an 18-hole course in a countryside setting. Water sports at all levels are available: there are sailing schools for beginners and outings for more advanced sailors, diving in the crystalline waters of the Argentario and around the islands of the archipelago in search of old wrecks, and kitesurfing in all seasons. Meanwhile, in periods of strong waves these areas are host to a rich community of surfers who find the conditions here ideal to hone their skills. The River Fiora can be explored by water trekking, discovering the river ecosystem or just being swept along by the water. For those you don’t want to get wet, we can recommend the walking trails, which allow you to reach unspoiled and charming places directly from Relais La Cerreta. For those who just want to relax
Nature, fresh air, sun and sea, far from excessive noise: these ingredients alone are enough to make a holiday at Relais La Cerreta the right tonic for everyday stress. But if this isn’t enough, we have a barbeque area in the woods, where after a relaxing stroll or bike ride in the fields, you can taste the famous Tuscan char-grilled steak. And if you want a totally relaxing experience, you can make use of the nearby beauty centres where you can have a massage and beauty treatments at special rates. To make use of these services it is necessary to book at reception.
Fishing with Paolo
Discover the sea and its inhabitants with Paolo, a true seafarer. He transfers this passion for the sea during trips on his boat the Sirena, dropping fishing nets or just discovering the more out of the way spots in Maremma Park. The trips last half a day or a full day, with the possibility of eating the day’s catch for lunch or visiting the park in a 4x4. Paolo lives on the sea all year round and is happy to meet any special requests for your trip. Departures are from Talamone, which gives a great opportunity to visit the old fortified town.
Horses – our fellow workers
Fabrizio and his daughter Sabina both have a passion for horses in abundance. If you’d like your children to have a lesson or advance to vaulting, Sabina knows exactly how to help them step by step. If, on the other hand, you love nature, a ride in the Maremma countryside is the perfect way to discover it and to see how important these animals still are for in the area. If you want to go even further, Fabrizio can organise a day of horse riding which takes you inland to stay at the eco-friendly Terre Brune, another property from the Hentalpia Collection.
Bicycles – an eco-friendly way to travel
Roam around the estate by bike, without the dangers of traffic, and breathe in the fresh air and tranquillity. Relais La Cerreta provides (5 € per person per stay) bicycles so you can move about freely during your stay. For specific needs such as children's bicycles, car seats or other requirements, we ask you to contact us in advance and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Maremma has always been a sought after holiday destination for its beauty, sense of well-being and nature. The region offers a variety of landscapes and today is one of Italy’s gems. The peak of Mount Amiata slopes towards the sea with alternating hills and plains, giving way to beaches as far as the eye can see from Alberese and Ansedonia to the cliffs of Argentario, where you can plunge into the cleanest sea in Italy. The ancient flavours, people, and traditions will remain in your memory as they have done for all those that have taken this journey before you in the heart of Italy.
Events
There are many traditions rooted in this area including the typical cuisine and the Maremmani ‘cowboys’, i Butteri, which are kept alive with annual events. Festivals and country fairs let you see the cowboys at work - the same cowboys that impressed Buffalo Bill so much that he wanted them in his famous Wild West show - and allow you to taste the typical culinary delicacies of these parts. But Maremma is also a cultural region, and important events are held in Capalbio every year showcasing cinema, art and poetry, with events that attract spectators from all over the world. And if you just want to relax, and relax even more, and sunbathe by the crystalline sea, the coast from Ansedonia to Pescia Fiorentina is one of the best our country has to offer.

The Maremma region has endless opportunities for its visitors, who never tire of discovering its beauty. We can only give you some pointers of places not to miss, but after that there is an infinite choice of places to visit. Just choose your starting point and you won’t be disappointed.
Talamone is important in Italian history because it is here that Giuseppe Garibaldi, in charge of his thousand soldiers, famously stopped in 1860 to stock up on water and weapons. The town lies on a rocky promontory on the edge of the Maremma nature reserve, in a dominant position on the stretch of coast that extends to Mount Argentario. It has always been popular among tourists and holiday makers, and offers its visitors a historical town to admire and crystalline waters to swim in. Talamone is located only 40km from Relais La Cerreta.
Giardino dei Tarocchi (the Tarot Garden) was designed by the world renowned French sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle, who was inspired by a visit to Gaudì’s wonderful Park Guell in Barcelona, and contains representations of twenty-two tarot cards in cyclopean sculptures that are 12 to 15 meters high and covered with mosaics of mirror, fine glass and ceramics. A visit to the garden is a time for fun and discovery for both adults and children alike. The garden is open from 1 April to 15 October from 14:30 to 19:30 and is about 4 km from Relais La Cerreta and easy to reach by bicycle.
The small medieval village of Capalbio is located close to the most southerly coastal strip of southern Tuscany. The ancient history of this area has been built by man and by nature itself. The Etruscans and Romans left their mark, and the landscapes are strong and wild; full of contrasts between the sea, the scrubland and the countryside . The village of Capalbio is approximately 14 km from Relais La Cerreta.
Lake Burano has been a WWF Oasis since 1967. The nature reserve covers an area of 410 hectares, and has been a national protected site since 1980. What is called the “lake” is actually a brackish coastal lagoon of about 140 hectares and about one metre deep on average. The Oasis, which is rich in flora and fauna, is open to visitors on Sundays from September to 1 May. Outside these days booking is required. The Oasis is about 11km from Relais La Cerreta.
