The Costa Smeralda is part of the province of Olbia-Tempio.
Known to one and all, the Costa Smeralda is one of Sardinia’s world-famous areas for its scenic beauty, with top locations such as Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo. Many areas of the Costa Smeralda jealously guard their wild and unspoiled nature, while others are more equipped to welcome visitors.
Towns of interest include Olbia, one of the Sardinia region’s most strategic points, especially because of its airport.
People from all over the world visit the province of Olbia-Tempio to explore the seabed. Underwater caves and rocks alternate in this wonderful landscape, which remains invisible to those who do not go scuba diving. The Tavolara Island Marine Reserve and the National Park of La Maddalena Archipelago were founded to defend this natural environment.
Worth a visit is the XII century Fava Castle with its 21metre tower.
The inland parts of Olbia-Tempio are characterized by granite mountains. You will be captivated by the coloured summit of Mount Limbara and the Sassi Plain with its enormous outcrops of rock.
At the foot of Mount Limbara lies Tempio, a bishopric of ancient origins as discoveries from the Neolithic Period attest.
Along the northern coast are miles and miles of long beaches.
A visit to Rossa Island is a must, a small islet with surprising red rocks in sharp contrast with its beaches of fine white sand.
