Amidst the Mediterranean macchia and beside the glorious Etruscan coast, ‘Residence Il Castagno’ sits in a magnificent location, surrounded by an ancient chestnut forest. ‘Il Castagno’ is an old casolare – a typical Tuscan farmhouse – and has been superbly renovated in complete harmony with the surrounding countryside.
‘Il Castagno’ is divided into eight apartments, four on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and one on the second floor. All apartments have been furnished and equipped to provide our guests with every comfort and so ensure an unforgettable stay: air-conditioning, heating, private garden with table, chairs and deckchairs, private barbecue, satellite television, safe, alarm and car parking.
Every apartment has its own entrance. We can provide comfortable dog pens for those guests who wish to bring their pets. The Residence also has a swimming pool, bordered by a well-tended lawn, which boasts a hydromassage facility.
Our splendid location makes an ideal base from which to explore the wide variety of sights and opportunities the area offers. The archaeological park of San Silvestro is practically on our doorstep, nearby Baratti and Populonia exhibit the region’s Etruscan past, while those who enjoy cycling will find beautiful rides that are both challenging and relaxing. There are also numerous beaches to suit all tastes, ranging from the Gulf of Baratti to the white beach of Vada. The hot springs of the nearby ‘Calidario’, meanwhile, offer an alternative to bathing in the sea.
The entire area is dotted with beautiful mediaeval villages and towns such as Campiglia Marittima, Castagneto Carducci, Sassetta, Bolgheri and Massa Marittima, all with their unique blend of history, architecture and culture. ‘Il Castagno’ is located on the Strada del Vino (Wine Road), allowing visitors to sample the excellent local wines of Bolgheri and the Val di Cornia. We are also perfectly situated for making larger excursions to the nearby Island of Elba, or to Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano and Volterra.
