Among the most beautiful monuments to visit in Rovigo are the Town Hall, the eighteenth-century Clock Tower and the Palazzo dell'Accademia dei Concordi, which contains a fine art gallery. The Cathedral still has an unfinished façade, but inside visitors will find sculptures, statues and paintings of great quality.
A visit to Rovigo should include a look at the beautiful Donà Tower, part of the castle built by Paul Cattaneo, bishop of Adria, in the early tenth century.
Another tower that forms part of the boundary wall is in Via Pighin and dates back to the early twelfth century.
Visit the nearby town of Luisa and its Church of SS Vito and Modesto containing works by local artists, and also the castle, both examples of the town’s importance in the past.
Art lovers should be sure to visit the Church of San Michele at Villanova del Ghebbo.
Famous for its Este family castle is Lendinara. Inside the ‘del Bagno’ Chapel the town of Lendinara keeps water considered to be miraculous. The construction of the Shrine began on August 26, 1577. The monastery is a monument of very simple construction; among the many valuable works it contains are some frescoes that tell its own story.
There are two important ‘green’ areas in Rovigo province that are actually a profusion of many colours! They are the Po Delta Park and the Po River Mouths Nature Reserve. The Po River Mouths Nature Reserve is composed of small islands with lush vegetation. The Po Delta Park, which the Veneto region shares with Emilia Romagna, combines the colours of nature with the art and traditions of the populations who inhabit this flourishing area.
