Agriturismo Locanda Terenzi

The area of Scansano, located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma region, lies in a landscape of rolling hills, many of which left wild or traditionally dedicated to wine growing.
The Etruscans and the Romans would preserve their precious nectar within tuffaceous rock cavities near Pitigliano, and still today one can detect the presence of the Spanish and French, who marked their passage also in the names of some of the local vines, such as alicante or petit verdot.
In 1884 the scholar Giacomo Barabino published a treatise in which he maintained that " the wines of Magliano, Pereta and Scansano are excellent, and there are few regions in which wine of such exquisite quality is produced". As regards recent history, since the early 1990s the area has enjoyed a great revival; so much so that today, thanks to the passion of leading entrepreneurs, who have believed and invested in the region, and to the extraordinary skill of agronomists and wine specialists, Maremma has come to be regarded as an area of great oenological interest, known the world over.
From Bolgheri to the coastline, through evocative towns and villages - many of which hold the DOC appellation, such as Capalbio, Sovana, Monteregio and Pitigliano - the area now boasts 34 DOC and 7 DOCG appellations, the most recent of which awarded to the Morellino di Scansano wine.
