Symbols of the Valdichiana farming society.
The Chianino agricultural cart is one of the symbols of the Valdichiana farming society. Distinguishing features are the long curved poles at the front, the long beam, and the typical decorations on the sides. The cart was used for every kind of transport, but particularly for bringing produce from the fields back to the farmyard during the wheat and grape harvest.
The Chianina race of oxen were the most suitable for pulling the carts and were highly valued by the farming family; for this reason, the horns of the oxen and cows were often decorated with a red ribbon against the evil eye.
