The estate and hamlet of Cerbaia (Fattoria di Cerbaia) is situated in the “Montagnola Senese” to the south west of Siena: Here is possibly the most perfect Tuscan retreat, central for all the sight seeing you could wish to do but equally enticing for its own rural charm and tranquillity.
Tis tucked away in a hidden hollow in the Montagnola and is surrounded by meadowland and miles of woodland, making it an ecological paradise. A range of shops and restaurants are about fifteen minutes away, Siena is a twenty-five minutes drive, the towered San Giminiano about forty minutes and Florence an hour. The Chianti vinegards are within easy distance.
“Cerbaia” belonged for 500 years to Tolomei family, who were major players in the history of Siena from early Middle Ages. The current owners, Signor and Signora Pellegrini, live in one part of the villa and rent out the large part for several months of the year. They both speak good english. In addition of the ain villa, they have converted, about 30 years ago, four farm buildings into holiday accomodation. Some are fairly simple and basic, wile others have modern equipment and a antique furniture. All have intresting feature and traditionally Tuscan. Guests share a swimming pool situated to the side of the buildings, behind a stone barn.
There is a real atmosphfere of history here. It is the perfect place to relax under the famous Tuscan sun with a glass of local wine, or to discover the countless tresaures the region has to offer.
Records date part of the main building from 1039, as a military tower, and transformation to a villa during sixteenth Century. Archaeological excavation have found traces of Palaeolithic settlements. Apart from all the well known, and contless not so well known historical places of interest, thisb is idylliv walking and mountain biking country with many paceful, un made roads throug meadows chestnut and holm oak woods rich in mushroom, wild flowers an animals. Not surprisilingly the area is designed a National Park.
