The Nestore estate is situated on the outskirts of a small village, about 120 yds. from where the rivers Tiber and Nestore meet. The land is surrounded by gently undulating hills. This landscape is very typical of the Tuscan-Umbrian region. The Tiber flows in the valley which the Romans used as a means of transportation for trading in the area.
An ancient Roman road was recently discovered connecting the river and the Abbey of St.Cassiano (which is part of the estate). The property belonged to the Abbot of Petroia and was given to the Rossi family (who still own it) by Pope Pius VI in the year of 1781 AD.
Many great artists of the Renaissance period wre born in this area. Within a radius of approx. 30 miles you can find the birthplaces of, for example, Michelangelo (Caprese), Piero della Francesca (Sansepolcro), Pinturicchio (Perugia), Raphael and Bramante (both at Urbino).
For a holiday without the stress of driving, nearby medieval towns of art can be visited by local railway and shopping can be done by bicycle.
The Interiors of Nestore:
There are four large apartments which can each accommodate two to six persons, with bathroom, kitchen, T.V. and telephone. One of the bathrooms is fitted with facilities for the disabled (wheelchair).
In the courtyard there is a wood fired oven at the disposal of all residents.
The surrounding areas rich in Etruscan and Roman remains, splendid medieval towns and Renaissance masterpieces.
Gubbio and Assisi, Lake Trasimeno and nearby Tuscany, Urbino and the Region of Marche are easy to reach. The property is easily accessed by car (E45) or by local train, Central Umbrian Railway (FCU) (the small station of Verna lies only a few steps away).
If you plan a car-less holiday you may go shopping by bicycle and get to the art towns by local train.
