Ossaia has a rich history. Its name ('Boneyard') is taken from the famous battle between the Romans and Carthaginian forces of Hannibal, which took place near the Trasimeno lake in 217 BC. Today, one can admire the remains of a palatial Roman villa from the Imperial period. The Villa Romana belongs to an archeological park that also includes the famous Etruscan tombs of the Cortonese territory.

After Cortona, there are several other beautiful Italian cities nearby: Montepulciano 20 minutes away, Arezzo, Perugia, and Gubbio (each 30 minutes), Siena and Montalcino (45 minutes), Florence (an hour), and Rome (2 hours).
Where we areCortona, only five minutes away by car, is world famous for its medieval streets, renaissance palaces, museums, piazzas, and walkways. Many world-famous movies have been shot here, including Roberto Benigni's “Life is Beautiful,” “Sostiene Pereira,” starring Marcello Mastroianni, and most recently, “Under the Tuscan Sun,” which was based on Frances' Mayes novel of the same name (in fact, the author still has a home in Cortona and hosts an annual Tuscan Sun Festival.)
