Its name apparently derives from the so-called "tuoro" fishing which was once practiced on Lake Trasimeno. A short distance from the town lies the parish church of Confine, a Romanesque building of the early 12C.
The Maggiore Island lies within the district, it is the second largest of the three islands of Trasimeno.
