Where we are
COLLEVECCHIO
Collevecchio also includes the ancient suburb of Cicignano and Poggio Sommaville, site of great archaeological interest, where recently a Necropolis has been recovered. The first nucleus probably lived of Collevecchio called Colle or Castel Muziano or Mozzano. According to the most documented hypotheses the suburb with the actual name, has risen around the XIII century as it testifies the "Breve" wrote from Innocenzao IV in 1253, that granted to the inhabitants of Mozzano to move themselves "ad Castrum Colavetus nuncupatur". Initially under the protection of the Pontifical State, Collevecchio passed subsequently under the control of the family Orsini; in the year 1594 extinguished him the Orsini, returned to the Pontifical State. From 1605 to 1795 it was center of the Governor of the Sabina; in the pediment of the building that was of the governors, we can see today still the coat of arms of the Orsini.

In the historical center we can find the Building Pistolini, attributed to the Vignola, over the Building Piacentini attributed to Anthonio da Sangallo the Young one. Of notable merit is the church of Saint Maria dell'annunziata, built in the XIII century; the damaged bell tower strongly and reconstructed, preserve intact the primitive charm: it goes up again in fact to the X century.

The Convent that belonged to the Monks Cappuccini, with the church devoted to Sant'Andrea, patron of Collevecchio, has been built in 1595. In the refectory of the convent we can admire restored a fresco of the XVI century, that represents the Epiphany, attributed to the Venetian School.

LA SABINA
The county Sabina, made immortal by emperors and poets of the ancient Rome it is note as country of beautiful women, because of the "abduction of the sabines".
Also St. Francis of Assisi has loved her and crossed, electing as own abode some of the most suggestive places. Its name derives from the ancient people of the Sabinis, prone to the art and the contemplation, that it appropriated you in age pre-Roman.

The beauty, natural and landscape, characterized hilly composition of the territory.
To east we see the Appennineses and the Street Salaria, the ancient one "Street of the Salt" that it connects the Sabina to Rome, and to west the Valley Tiberina.
Numerous villages preserve intact the medieval charm of churches, buildings and fortifications surmounted from towers. Ancient suburbs on impracticable high ground, testify the tenacity and the contemplative nature of this people.
Proverbial it is the convivial cordiality of the people Sabino that united to the local productions of eno-gastronomy they make of this region the privileged place for an unforgettable vacation.

TORRI IN SABINA

It is found near Forum Novum, that is one of the first Roman centers of the territory of the Sabina.
In the middle-age the center was famous for its fortifications; the castle goes up again to 1200.

It was feud of the family Orsini, that made to build the building, in which they lived up to 1698. In 1728 it definitely passed to the Pontifical State.

In the historical center they are found the Collegiata di San Giovanni Battista and the church of San Nicola di Bari. Of notable interest is the territorial Museum of the Agro Foronovano.

ROCCHETTE

Rocchette together with the twin fortitude Rocchettine dominates a throat that is one of the most suggestive places of the Sabina.
From Collevecchio, crossing the provincial road for Cottanello, it is reached in less than 30 minutes.

The country of Rocchette is inhabited only partly, but the access is possible only afoot or a mule riding! The walls of the houses intersect him with the rocks and on the top a marvelous sight it enjoys him on the valley Tiberina.

The suburb of Rocchettine, by now abandoned because the rock on which it rests flakes him, preserve its medieval aspect.
They has news of the two castles from the Middle Ages with their names native Fortress Bertalda and Fortress Guidonesca already ownership of the Pontifical State.

TARANO
It belonged to the possessiones of the abbey of Farfa up to 1207 when it passed to the Apostolic Chamber.

They set it was always ownership of the Apostolic Chamber except the period in which it was ownership before the Savelli and then of the Orsini.

The urbanistic structure, the constructions, the passages the lanes and some ruins, reveal at times, the medieval origins.

The parish church of Saint Maria Assunta, embellished from the bell tower, built in 1114.

The church has recently been restored; to the inside, we can see a table to temper of the XVI century and a Pity in terracotta of the XV century.

CASCATA DELLE MARMORE
They is distant around 50 Kms from Villa San Giò, coasting along the river Black, comes near the beautiful Villa Graziani Pressio that it entertained the Byron in 1817.

After a curve almost suddenly, from the highland of the Marmore, we can see the white mass of the waters that they fall, and the whole Fall with its three jumps is seen shortly after for the general gradient of m. 165.

The din of the foamy waters that when the sun is low, it is dyed with the colors of the rainbow, in the green scenery of around it is a show not to lose.

FIANELLO

Ancient medieval suburb, is attainable in 30 minutes.
The contract of transfer of Fianello to Farfa, formalized in 1036, is guarded in the files of the abbey of Farfa.

The urbanistic structure of the suburb is closed from two doors: mighty the door of access.
The hurch of San Giovanni Battista rises on a side of the only plaza; the medieval Tower in style longobardo with pentagon base (There-VII sec.d.C.) it is found beside the church, it is a rare sample of tower with pentagonal base with coverage to form of sail. On the opposite side of the plaza there is the Building that was of ownership of the Colonna, and few over the monumental Oven.

The Suburb, leaned on a summit and forced in the ancient spaces, it projects the visitor in a remote epoch, thanks also to the wise care of the native ones that, even if emigrated elsewhere, they maintain the culture and the traditions.
Of particular interest is the church of S. Maria Assumed that it rises out of the suburb.
It has origins of the tall middle-age: with unique aisle and altar raised in Romanesque style, as it results from the capitals of the well preserved crypt, drawn by the materials used in the last recent restauration.

VESCOVIO
It was for excellence Episcopalian center, from which the name, and in a certain sense contrasted to Farfa.

The church of Santa Maria della Lode was cathedral and center of the bishop of Sabina up to 1495.
It was built in the IX century, but the bell tower was built later (XII century).

The project is to Latin cross to unique aisle, the walls decorated by a pictorial cycle, represent biblical events and of the New Will. On the against-façade the fresco of a grandiose universal judgment.

The crypt of more remote epoch, rises on the rests of a preexisting church built in turn on a Roman building. To the outside the open space with the excavations of the Roman town hall.

STIMIGLIANO
The country, abandoned on the left shore of the Tevere, it seems to rise on the rests of a Roman villa that it belonged to the family Settimia. In the middle age it was feud of the Orsini.

The historical center is characterized for the access through a door bugnata of the XVI century and for the Baronial Building, widened and enriched of numerous frescos by Enrico Orsini in halves the XVI century.

NARNI
Ancient region to the confinements between the Lazio and Umbria, gave the native to Cocceio Nerva (31 a.Cs.) censor and emperor of Rome and to other literates and humanists, and also to the Gattamelata. The city rises on a dense hill of cultivation of olives, preserve almost intact the medieval characteristics with its monuments and its picturesque angles.
