The Castle of Tavolese goes back to the first half of the 200’s. It is located in the Tuscan countryside and it is part of the village of Certaldo, 30 minutes away from Florence and Siena and only 20 minutes from San Gimignano. It is well connected by roads and freeways.
The first inhabitants of Tavolese were the Farinata degli Umbertis. In the XIII century, their spirit and cleverness were able to withstand the menace of destruction of the Ghibellinis.
Eventually the castle’s ownership shifted in the hands of the Dell’Asinos, named after the nickname of their patriarch Pietro,“asino” (donkey). Pietro Dell’Asino was also Farinata’s own brother and captain of Manfredi, king of Naples.
At this point the Canigianis, ancestors of Petrarca, took over Tavolese, followed by the Giugnis and finally the Counts Capponi, last heirs of the castle.
Today, after a passionate work of restoration, this castle has regained its original beauty and it has been transformed into a place of relaxation for the tourist who also appreciates the combination of art, environment, history and enogastronomy.
