The Farmhouse
La Scheggia, a typical example of Grand-Ducal architecture, is a small rural hamlet dating back to the 15th century that was completely restored in the ‘80s under the Building Authority of Arezzo. The building belong to Tuscany's Historic Houses Association. La Schegina ia a part  of a large farmhouse made up of 3 apartments and 3 detached houses with one big swimming pool surrounded by a garden. The apartments are completely furnished and all have a kitchen. The restoration of the buildings was carried out in observance of the simplicity of the old rural dwellings built with stone, terracotta tiles and chestnut beams. The furniture comes from the local family houses.

The Landscape
Has remained unchanged for centuries. Broad conifers and woods of oak and chestnut trees are scattered with archaeological remains dating back to Etruscan, Roman and Lombard times, discreet human vestiges that merge perfectly with the environment. It is a crossroads that for centuries was travelled by merchants, troops, shepherds and pilgrims. Merchants carried theirs goods along the “Salt Route”; troops fought with varying success for the rule of the territory; shepherds led their herds to the sea; pilgrims climbed these paths to reach the places of contemplation. It is an ancient fief that once belonged to the Lords of Montauto. They ruled these valleys for centuries from their castle on the hill opposite the farmhouse. The mixture of light and colours that inspired the perspectives of Piero della Francesca can be seen: landscapes plunged into absolute silence and dotted with the hermitages where S. Francis was known to meditate.

Cultural Holidays
Discovering the artistic cities between Tuscany and Umbria.
Situated in the hills that divide Tuscany from Umbria (600 m. above sea level) and due to its central position, La Scheggia is only a day’s drive away from the main artistic cities of Central Italy. Then you can come back to the farmhouse for the evening and enjoy the silence of the countryside and the fresh climate during the summertime heat. The farmhouse is well connected to the Arezzo exit, motorway A1, and to the Sansepolcro exit, state road E45.

The deep silence and...
Letting yourself be caught up in the rhythm of nature, seasons, and the rising and setting of the sun. Going when you feel the need to escape from the fast lane, to slow down, savour a good book or have a conversation with your friends. It is a place where creativity flows. Walking along the paths meandering through the woods and visiting hermitages and convents steeped in silence whispering the spirituality of Saint Francis. Going down the hill on a mountain bike or on horseback towards the walled villages of Barbolana and Galbino, visiting the Romanesque parish church of Sovara, the castles of Verazzano and Toppole, or climbing up the hill of Montauto overlooked by the thirteen-century Barbolani Castle, linked to Franciscan memories.

The good living...
Rediscovering the ancient traditions that are still nourishing the craftsmanship of weaving, inlaying, wrought iron and wickerwork. Tasting the local products directly from the producers: the oil at the Motina Oil Mill, Chianti wine directly from our friends’ cellar in San Fabiano, the fossa (sealed up in a pit) cheese made by a group of young farmers living in the neighbouring farmhouse. Spending the evening in the local country inns where skilled women cooks still prepare the same typical dishes of the past shrouded in the scent of wood.
