Where we are
The Tuscia region
Tuscia was the name given to the Etruria region at the end of the etruscan rule, which established since the ancient times up to the Middle Ages. The name referred to a wide territory including also Tuscany and Umbria regions. At present the name “Tuscia” is used only for those areas in the northern Latium up to the borders to Tuscany and Umbria.

Tuscia of nowdays is for the main part an agricultural region. It has many common aspects to the similar region Tuscany but at the same time it is also characterized for its own features.
Many natural and archeological parks are located in this territory such as the Regional Natural Reserve of Monte Rufeno, the Regional Natural Reserve of Monte Casoli in Bomarzo, the Regional Natural Reserve of Tuscania, the Ragional Natural Park of the ancient town of Sutri, the Regional Natural archeological park of Vulci, the National Natural Reserve “Saline” of Tarquinia and the regional traditions are well preserved and still came back into use by several local festivities in any village and at any season.

The Bolsena Lake
It is the largest volcanic lake in Europe and the fifth largest among the Italian lakes. It is located in the Upper Tuscia one of the most beautiful areas of Latium region. For its pure natural environment it is one of few Italian lakes to be completely bathing. Because of its cleaned waters (local fishermen say it is the “lake to be drunk”) many different species of animal and plants grew there and for this reason it was classified as a SIC (Sites of european Community Importance) in 2005.

The coasts of the lake are generally low and sandy. Along the coasts there are quite beaches, ideal places for relaxing, swimming and fishing, fields and gardens with olive trees, wineyards and vegetables.

The lake is supplied entirely from the rainfall and natural springs coming from underground and it has only one emissary, the Marta river, which begins its course from the homonymous town and flows into the Tyrrenian Sea nearby Tarquinia.
Further its particular natural aspect, it is not to forget its prehistoric settlement from the Villanova period, to Etruscan and then to the Roman times, the Middle Age and to the Renaissance period up to modern times….Therefore there are many relevant historical towns and places all around the lake: Bolsena, Montefiascone, Marta, Capodimonte. Furthermore many important archeological sites are located in the whole territory.
